  • Fellow Alums, Rejoice!

Here’s a note to my fellow Penn State alumni: hang in there. Our proud university is taking it on the chin these days because a few of its non-academia leaders (i.e., “sports professionals”) have acted like immature frat brothers. All of us have suffered from the association.

Rest assured. The well-oiled machinery of Pennsylvania justice will …

Wait a second, let me try another approach.

Rest assured. Your intrepid mystery author, in collaboration with Dennis Page, a fresh voice in non-fiction drama, will raise the curtain on the tragedy and farce now playing in Happy Valley. Justice will be done.

Dennis and I have completed a wild and thrilling screenplay based on the true story of the Penn State folly and the institutional failures that led to both the indictment of Jerry Sandusky and the disappearance of Centre County District Attorney Ray Gricar. We connect the dots (even better than Pittsburgh forensic scientist Cyril Wecht). Next week, the script will be making its rounds. I hope to report a buyer in my next posting.

Dennis is a good friend and excellent writer. He brings a measured but authentic sense of outrage to his prose. His years in teaching English to less fortunate students gives him an insight into the enormity of the crimes alleged in this case. Our study of human nature and the facts surrounding the key players in this saga have resulted in a mystery-thriller that is both believable and believed. I’ve enjoyed this spirited collaboration and look forward to more.

In the meantime, we’re happy to report that sales of the Rivers of Pittsburgh Mystery Trilogy are continuing as more readers, especially displaced Pennsylvanians, jump onto the train. Sales of the first book, “Tonight in the Rivers of Pittsburgh,” jumped on Amazon.com last month and, hopefully, those happy readers will continue on to “Woods on Fire” and the thrilling “Zelienople Road.”

One reason for the sales spike is probably the distinction we received from Indiereader.com — the leading website for small publisher books. Indiereader named “Tonight in the Rivers of Pittsburgh” as one of its top five “must-read” scariest mysteries for Halloween. (Missing bodies and graveyards were a good combination for that award!)
